Seal Food Containers

Make sure all food is tightly sealed in containers or bags. Plastic or glass containers with locking lids are the best choice. Remember to use locking lids for your garbage cans as well; ants and other pests will gladly search there for their daily meals.

Seal Entry Points

Seal up points of entry along windows or doorframes. Even a tiny gap or crack could make an ideal passage for ants and other small pests. Physically preventing pests from entering your home is actually a strategy used by professionals – known as pest exclusion. It’s a powerful tool that can significantly reduce your chances of infestation.

Trim Bushes and Trees

Trim back your trees and branches to make sure they aren’t touching your house – or any nearby power lines. Ants can use just about anything to get where they want to go; branches and even power lines could serve as ant highways. Keeping the perimeter of your home clean can make it much less appealing to ants.

Repair Plumbing Leaks

If you have any leaking pipes or plumbing fixtures, they can be an easy water source for nearby ant colonies. Fix these moisture problems and replace any water-damaged or rotting wood. Remember that they don’t need much water, so any amount left lying around could attract them.
